People at the station / Checkin’ the time / Been waitin’ so long
To hear that whistle whine / There’s a shine on the rails
And a clickety-clack / But there ain’t no train / Comin’ down the track
Ain’t no train (ain’t no train)
Ain’t no train (ain’t no train)
Ain’t no train (ain’t no train)
To carry me home
It reeks of darkness / And smoke in the air / Nobody here’s
Goin’ anywhere / I’d give anything / To get it all back
But there ain’t no train / Comin’ down the track
Chorus
Back in the day / When the sun would shine / I used to have a lover
At the end of the line / But the weather changed
And I turned my back / Now there ain’t no train
Comin’ down the track
You can sail a sailboat / You can drive a motorcycle
Rent a car catch a star / Ride a bullet from a rifle
Peddie cab, bus ride, helicopter, Circle Line
But you can’t escape the pain / If you haven’t got a train
This album is like an iceberg, with a surface of nice chill jazz to relax to. But underneath there are teeth. Initiation continues to heal me and blow my mind over and over as it lulls the nervous system with its gentle and addictive melody while talking about the experience of domestic abuse. It also has some of the tightest, jazziest lyric-writing I've ever heard.
